In this chess class we will learn how the pieces move, basic rules, basic chess strategies, and a bit about the history of chess.
Lessons

  1. Introduction to how the pieces move (including castling, check and checkmate,
    and en passant rules).

  2. Relative piece value.

  3. How to checkmate with 2 rooks.

  4. How to checkmate using a queen and king.

  5. Controlling the center (how to control the board by controlling the 4 center squares.

  6. 5 kinds of draws, what are they, and how do you recognize them?

  7. Pawn weaknesses (how to exploit them, and how to avoid them).

  8. The scholars mate and how to avoid it.

  9. A brief history of chess.
